Terra Incognita

Terra Incognita began as a single European oak cross-section and my very first resin table project.

While shaping and finishing the piece, I found myself looking at it less as wood and resin and more as a landscape seen from far above the Earth.

The blue forms resemble coastlines, inland seas and hidden bays. The white patterns suspended within the resin look like cloud systems and atmospheric fronts drifting across the surface. From a distance, the entire table begins to resemble an aerial view of an unexplored continent.

That vision became the foundation of the piece.

The name Terra Incognita comes from ancient maps, where cartographers marked unknown territories with the words "unexplored land". Looking at this table, it feels as though you are observing such a place from the sky — a forgotten coastline, an undiscovered archipelago or a fragment of a world waiting to be charted.

The resin composition was created in multiple layers to achieve depth and movement beneath the surface. The cloud-like formations are not painted effects but part of the resin itself, creating changing visual impressions depending on light and viewing angle.

The entire tabletop is encapsulated beneath a continuous high-gloss resin finish, giving the surface exceptional depth while protecting both wood and resin beneath.

Every growth ring, contour and natural cavity remains visible, preserving the history of the oak while transforming it into something entirely new — part landscape, part map, part functional sculpture.

Terra Incognita is a piece inspired by exploration, perspective and curiosity. A reminder that sometimes the most interesting places exist not on a map, but in the imagination of the observer.
