Mauna Loa

Mauna Loa began with a single European oak cross-section and a naturally formed crater hidden within its center.

Rather than concealing this feature, it became the foundation of the entire piece.

From that central formation, a network of channels and flowing paths was carved by hand using grinders and chisels, transforming the oak into a miniature volcanic landscape. Every ridge, valley and transition was individually shaped before the resin work began.

Layer after layer of resin was poured using multiple pigments and translucent effects, creating depth, movement and the illusion of glowing magma beneath the surface. The terrain visible beneath the finish was entirely hand-sculpted, making this piece as much a work of carving as it is of resin art.

Every contour follows the natural structure of the wood. Nothing was copied from a template. The landscape was discovered within the oak and gradually revealed through carving, colour and craftsmanship.

Viewed from above, the tabletop evokes an aerial perspective of a volcanic world — a glowing core surrounded by hardened terrain, frozen in time beneath a glass-like surface.

More than a coffee table, Mauna Loa is a functional sculpture inspired by the geological forces that shape our planet.

This original piece is featured in the complete build documentary, allowing its future owner to follow the entire journey from raw oak slab to finished artwork.
